Barbra Streisand, James Brolin, Ted Danson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Oliver Stone, Dustin Hoffman, Danny DeVito, Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Kevin Costner were among those who recently showed up at a John Kerry fundraiser in California.

The ultimate irony is that many of these celebrities have made a shambles of their own lives, with drug abuse, alcoholism, numerous marriages and divorces, scrapes with the law, publicized temper tantrums, etc. How dare they pretend to know what is best for an entire nation!

Last Saturday, the General Conference of the United Methodist Church overwhelmingly voted (625-184) to add language to the denomination's Social Principles endorsing "laws in civil society that define marriage as the union of one man and one woman."
